The latest Abacus Data survey reveals two-thirds of Canadians would like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign, and just one in five want him to remain as the Liberal leader.

67% of Canadians want Trudeau to resign, poll shows

The survey was launched after Monday, when former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland quit cabinet and accused Trudeau of “costly political gimmicks.”

According to the results, the federal Conservatives have opened up a dominant 25 point lead over the flailing Liberals, 45% to 20% respectively.

“This represents the largest Conservative lead in our tracking history and the lowest Liberal vote share since 2015,” Abacus Data CEO David Colleto said.

Only 19% of respondents reported they believe Canada is heading in the right direction, and more than half of respondents said they want an election immediately (58%).

Trudeau is receiving calls from a number of his own MPs to step down, with one calling him “viscerally disliked” and “delusional.”

338 Canada

As of December 15, 338 Canada projects the Conservatives would win 224 seats if an election were held today, compared to the Liberals winning 47.

The next scheduled election is set for October 2025.
