Trudeau closes in on most expensive gas prices ever

Ontario gas prices are soaring to record highs as inflation seizes the country, and the Trudeau government is left dumbfounded by the phenomenon.

On the morning of August 27, commuters were no doubt left aghast by the insane gas prices waiting for them when they refuelled.

$1.409 per litre.

Almost a record in the province, and it is only getting worse.

According to Dan McTeague, the former Liberal MP and current president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, we have not hit the record yet, but “we’re awfully close.”

The record was set in July 2014, when prices skyrocketed to $1.43. McTeague has since taken to Twitter, warning consumers there is no light at the end of the tunnel. He expects the record to be broken by 2023 at the latest, but likely sooner.

In response to these revelations, CTV News has already begun warning consumers in Ottawa and Toronto of another spike in prices as we enter the weekend.

“I usually try to give people a two-day heads up so that they know that it went up to five cents, tomorrow it goes down two (cents), and Sunday, it may very well go up two (cents),” he said in an interview with Global News. “If you didn’t gas up yesterday, the best day to gas up is tomorrow.”

McTeague also says that he has every reason to believe that gas prices will continue to rise throughout the coming Fall season.

“Very simple economics, which is that supply continues to trail behind demand, and it’s doing so consistently and may actually get worse,” McTeague explained.

“Which suggests to me that the price, although it may appear to drop or be turning in that direction, there’s a greater likelihood of prices going up over the next several months than going down.”

Despite being a former Liberal MP, McTeague has been highly critical of PM Justin Trudeau, freely laying the blame at his scandal-ridden feet.

As McTeague has pointed out, with gas prices at near-record levels and additional carbon taxes to follow, it will undoubtedly be baffling how Canadians will be able to make it work to fuel the Liberal government’s massive spending.
