A 22-year-old man in Ontario has been charged with second-degree murder after shooting dead an intruder who was attacking his mother.

Man charged with murder for shooting dead an attacking intruder

Ali Mian shot and killed the intruder who intended to rob his mother’s home in Milton. Mian lives with his single mother.

CP24 reports that Mian’s lawyer said he “shot at an intruder that broke into his home and attacked his mother.”

Mian reportedly only took one shot at the intruder. His lawyer said he was trying to protect his mom.

“He is a registered firearm owner and used his gun legally against an armed intruder,” his lawyer said.

“He shouldn’t be charged with murder for protecting his mother from someone that broke into his home.”

Police are looking for more suspects involved in the incident. In all, five suspects were part of what police believe was a planned robbery.

Along with the dead intruder, Romario Clarke was charged with breaking and entering and illegally possessing a firearm.

Three other suspects fled the scene and remain at large. Police identified a light-coloured Dodge Charger with a sunroof as their getaway car.

Police believe the incident was targeted.

“On February 19, 2023, at approximately 5:00 am, a group of suspects approached a house on Gibson Crescent in Milton,” Halton police reported.

“It is believed that these individuals were intent on committing a robbery at this home. Upon entering the residence, they were confronted by an occupant and a number of gunshots were fired within the home. One individual was pronounced deceased at the scene, while two other individuals were arrested when police arrived.”

Both Mian and Clarke are to appear in Milton court on Tuesday.
