Ontario Premier Doug Ford has stated that if the carbon tax isn’t abolished, Justin Trudeau will be swiftly removed from office come election time next year.
“Let’s cut to the chase. This carbon tax has to go, or in a year and a half, the Prime Minister is going,” Ford said.
“It’s as simple as that. He will be going. I guarantee you he will not be there.”
Ford continued, “If he doesn’t start looking after the people and the businesses of Ontario—the ideology [the Liberals] have is just beyond me. I do not understand it at all.”
Ford isn’t alone on this
Ford isn’t the only premier championing the removal of Justin Trudeau as leader of this country. Recently, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe shared these sentiments.
In a tweet, Scott Moe stated the following, “Just a reminder that the carbon tax increase is not just a bad April Fool’s joke from the Trudeau-NDP government this year. It will continue to increase every April 1 until 2030, when it will be more than double what it is today.
“Unless the government changes.”
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has also been incredibly vocal about the harms of the carbon tax and recently testified against it, calling the carbon tax “reckless, immoral, and inhumane”.
“I’m urging you today to heed the calls of Canadians across the country and suspend the increase in the carbon tax on April 1,” Smith told the House Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates last week. “The carbon tax has contributed to and worsened Canadians’ stress and financial pain, despite the federal government’s claims that Canadians benefit from rebates.
“The carbon tax, on a net basis, will cost Albertans more than $900 this year [each] if the tax is implemented,” Smith said.
She went on, explaining that the PBO has stated that the costs will triple for each Albertan in the next six years if implemented to $2700 net by 2030–2031.
“This isn’t just reckless: it’s immoral, and it’s inhumane. And the added pressure will ruin countless lives, futures, and dreams. It’s a weight that Canadians just can’t bear. And that’s why Alberta has been calling the federal government to eliminate the carbon tax since 2019,” Smith said.
Premier Andrew Furey calls for emergency meeting and pause on the carbon tax
Newfoundland Premier Andrew Furey has also been vocally opposed to Trudeau’s carbon tax hike. Just yesterday, Furey posted a letter on X addressed to Trudeau, calling for a pause on the carbon tax hike and an emergency meeting to be convened.
“Today, a gas-powered truck drives fishing gear to the wharf in a rural Newfoundland and Labrador community. After April 1, there will be an additional carbon tax, but that same truck must still drive fishing gear to the wharf,” Premier Furey wrote.
“There are no alternatives available. So, the key intent of this policy, to lower emissions, is not being achieved at this time.”
With all this opposition to the carbon tax hike, you’d think the Prime Minister would list and possibly reverse course. But Trudeau has been utterly unmoving, holding strong to his unjustifiable tax on everything.
