Ford calls on Jama to resign after antisemitic post

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is calling for NDP member of provincial parliament Sarah Jama to resign after she posted her latest antisemitic statement on X.

Ford calls on NDP member to resign “immediately” after antisemitic post

Jama, an NDP MPP, has been known for her radical stances on issues like the Israel-Palestine conflict, even before she won the by-election in March.

This time, on Tuesday, Jama broke silence on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict not by condemning the murdering of innocent civilians by Hamas terrorists but by slamming Israel for its “occupation of Palestine,” which she said was done “on the basis of racial-national-ethnic-identity.”

Jama further said she worries about the retaliation that Israel would enact on Gaza.

“For 75 years, violence and retaliation rooted in settler colonialism have taken the lives of far too many innocent people,” she said.

Even the Ontario NDP leader Marit Stiles called for Jama to retract her statement, but at the time of publication Jama had not done so.

Ford responds

Conservative Premier Doug Ford subsequently said on Wednesday that he’s doing what Stiles won’t.

“Sarah Jama has a long and documented history of antisemitism,” Ford said.

“Marit Stiles and the Ontario NDP have proven time and time again that they tolerate these hateful views and actions by keeping Ms. Jama in their caucus.”

Jama’s radicalism

In June, Jama attended a Toronto “abolish the police” rally, as reported by the Hamilton Independent.

In her post on X, Jama advocated for the No Pride In Policing Coalition, which is a group that describes itself as “a group of queer and trans people formed to support BLM-TO [Black Lives Matter Toronto] and now focused on defunding and abolishing the police.” The group also calls for the abolishing of prisons.

Days after attending the rally, Jama doubled down and retweeted her support for “defunding, disarming, dismantling, abolishing” the police.
