Harper said the field of candidates is strong, but Poilievre stands above the rest.

“He’s been the most vocal and effective critic of the Trudeau Liberals. He’s been talking about issues — especially the economic issues — that matter. Slow growth, debt, inflation, lack of job and housing opportunities, and the need to fix the institutions that are failing Canadian families.”

Harper further stated that Poilievre has the most support from caucus members and has brought in more new conservative members, including those in the younger generation, than anyone else.

“That’s how we win the next federal election. In my opinion, Pierre has made by far the strongest case that he is the person to do that.”

Harper has been relatively quiet when it comes to making political announcements and endorsements since he left office in 2015, making his endorsement all the more powerful.

The election takes place on September 10, less than seven weeks away.
