Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has ignited a viral social media trend after publicly disavowing the Trudeau Liberals’ proposed amendment to gun-ban bill C-21.
Late last month, the Trudeau Liberals sought to sneak in a late amendment to C-21, which would ban hundreds more models of semi-automatic shotguns and rifles, including those primarily used by hunters, farmers and sport shooters.
“I love my family, I love my country and I care for my neighbour. I am not a criminal or a threat to society. What @justinpjtrudeau is trying to do is unjust. I support the @ccfr_ccdaf to keep my hunting tools. Thank you for listening to my opinion” Price wrote on Instagram.
The Olympic gold medalist included a picture of himself dressed in full camo gear and holding a hunting rifle.
Conservative MPs studying Bill C-21 have said the Liberal amendment would ban almost all semi-automatic firearms.
Social media users subsequently followed Price’s post with their own, united under the hashtag “I’m with Carey.”
One user, Leanne, tweeted, “I love my family, I love my country and I take care of my neighbors. I am not a criminal or a threat to society. I love sport shooting and safety is paramount. What @JustinTrudeau is trying to do is unjust.
I support the @CCFR_CCDAF

“I’m a over 20 year Canadian Army vet. I love my family, my country and I care for my neighbours and community. I am not a threat to society. What Trudeau is doing is unjust. #ImwithCarey #WeAreNotTheProblem #SayNoToC21” tweeted Keith Eckensviller.
The Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights (CCFR) retweeted several users’ tweets that shared the hashtag.
“This #CareyPrice post calling out Trudeau on Bill #C21 could be the #TSNTurningPoint,” said Conservative Senator Denise Batters.
Last week, following the feds proposed amendment to Bill C-21, the CCFR blasted the Trudeau Liberals for “disastrous policies and their atrocious behaviour concerning licensed firearm owners.”
Price is currently on long-term injured reserve for the Canadiens. He sits 28th all-time for NHL goaltenders in games played and 22nd all-time in wins. In the 2014-2015 season, he won the Vezina trophy, which is awarded to the league’s best goalie.
