Billionaire and Montrealer Allan Zeman has become one of communist China’s most ardent Western advocates while living in and doing business in Hong Kong.
Over the years, fashion mogul Zeman has praised the authoritarian government of Xi Jinping and even said that he feels more Chinese than he does Canadian.
“I’m looking forward to a very positive future for Hong Kong. With the new system and the security law and all these things that have helped create stability in Hong Kong, Hong Kong will be a great place. I believe that Beijing will only do greater things for Hong Kong,” Zeman said in an interview with Bloomberg Television.
Zeman was talking about China’s illegal and ongoing takeover of Hong Kong. Hundreds of pro-democracy activists, journalists and politicians in the administrative region have been arrested, harassed, jailed, or outright disappeared by Beijing-controlled police forces as China seeks to exert more authority over the region.
In other interviews, Zeman has also stated that “too much democracy” is bad and that the Chinese people need an authoritarian one-party government in charge.
“I woke up one day and said to myself, ‘I feel more Chinese than I do Western,’” Zeman told the outlet ReOrient!
“I knew nothing about Canada. I couldn’t even tell you who the prime minister was at the time.”
Zeman has also referenced Canada and its allies as “idiot countries” run by “idiot politicians” that want to “stifle” communist China’s growth.
Unsurprisingly, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Hong Kong in 2016 and spoke at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong – an organization where Zeman holds a seat on the board of directors.
While travelling in Hong Kong and China, Trudeau unsuccessfully tried to curry favour with the Chinese regime and achieve a trade agreement.
“This is one of the last events on what has been a really great trip, and it feels wonderful to be surrounded again by so many friends,” said Trudeau.
“That includes all those at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce who have worked so hard to put on this event. Thanks for bringing us all together this afternoon. And of course, I have to acknowledge some special friends and colleagues who are here this afternoon.”
With so much fiscal power in Canada so ardently opposed to our freedom, it begs the question – how long can the country last?
