Protests against the Trudeau government’s harmful carbon tax continued throughout the weekend and show no signs of slowing down as we reach day 8.

#AxeTheTax: Nationwide protests against carbon tax continue

Protests are continuing both in Alberta and at the Ontario–Quebec border today, with many saying they’ll remain on-site throughout the duration of the eclipse.

According to Dacey Media, who has been covering the protests and attending the one at the border, some protesters have even brought out telescopes and will be projecting the eclipse so that those without eye protection can still view it.

Over the weekend, protests were notably larger in Alberta, specifically Edmonton, where hundreds showed up to protest Trudeau’s carbon tax, with some even setting up a haybale float to wave Canadian and #AxeTheTax flags.

Carbon tax protests take on Freedom Convoy vibes

And in a throwback to the Freedom convoy, protesters set up a bouncy castle on Saturday, while another rode a horse past media while raising a Canadian flag.

Reporting from the ground at Highway 1 near Calgary, footage taken by Rachel Emmanuel shows that the carbon tax protest has evolved into a full-on event, with barbeques, campfires, music, and singing.

As previously reported by The Counter Signal, protests sprung up in every single province across the country on April 1 to oppose the most recent hike to the carbon tax.

While protests have remained peaceful, RCMP began showing up in force on days 2 and 3 to prevent protesters from setting up along the sides of roads. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but many commented on the ominous presence of police and the fact that officers arrived masked, carrying automatic weapons, and with their names hidden.

Protesters aren’t the only ones opposing the carbon tax either. Seven Premiers have stood against it, and five have called for an emergency meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss alternatives.

For his part, Trudeau has refused to say whether he’ll ever meet with Premiers to discuss the carbon tax again, getting visibly angry when asked the question by a reporter recently.
