NDP MLA calls Green platform “unserious,” gossips about leaders’ fashion choices

Alberta NDP MLA Shannon Phillips had some keen observations during last night’s Federal Leaders’ Debate — too bad none were political.

When she wasn’t talking about the shoes and fashion choices of each federal leader, Phillips called the federal Green Party’s climate plan “unserious.”

Additionally, Phillips suggested that Green Party leader Annamie Paul didn’t “know what she is talking about on important issues.”

“I feel like it could have benefitted from a tank top, and I agree on the colour, though I don’t hate this oat-colour on her. I love yelling about fashion during otherwise mostly boring debates,” Phillips astutely observed on Twitter

“Although, the greens’ climate plan is unserious and she doesn’t know what she is talking about on important issues, I just learned. My heavens.”

In another tweet, Phillips stated that she felt sorry for Paul during the debate.

“I think I just feel bad for her in some way. Her French is decent. Her party has given her nothing to work with and on a human level it makes me sad for her. Also I like her outfit,” tweeted Phillips.

In other tweets, Phillips went into the details of each leaders’ personal style choices, including the colour of their suits.

“I like the shoes on both of them! I dunno, I like the mix in some contexts for certain personalities. Blanchet’s suit colour is ick and some arguments v unserious. But can we talk about Noemi Mercier. Her suit is stunning. I am dying. Dead. I write to you from the great beyond,” tweeted Phillips.

Phillips is currently an MLA for Lethbridge-West. Under the government of former Alberta premier Rachel Notley, Phillips held the roles of Minister of Environment and Parks and the Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office.

She has a history in radical environmental activism, including prior editorial work for Greenpeace and a tweet calling on Canadians to stop eating meat to reduce climate change.
