Ideological book-burnings have arrived in Canada thanks to the far-left woke fanatics who makeup Ontario’s school boards.
A new report reveals that in 2019, the southwestern Ontario public school board Conseil scolaire catholique Providence went on a book burning spree, lighting nearly 5,000 individual books on fire for being “anti-Indigenous.”
If that wasn’t crazy enough for you, the 30 French-language books that were tossed to the flames included harmless children’s stories like Tintin in America and Asterix and Obelix.
Activists on the board even forced students to watch their book-burning fetish on video which they religiously described as a “flame purification” ceremony that was “for educational purposes.”
“We bury the ashes of racism, discrimination and stereotypes in the hope that we will grow up in an inclusive country where all can live in prosperity and security,” the video said in French.
Board officials wanted to implement these ideological ceremonies in all of the 23 elementary and 7-French language schools served by the district but their efforts were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, the ceremony had the implicit approval of the Ontario Ministry of Education which is led by the supposed “conservative” government of Ontario Premier Doug Ford, although the Ministry was not involved in the book selection process.
If they had their way, nearly 10,000 students would have had to sit through their ideological book-burnings.
Even more books have been withdrawn by the board from being taught. In total, 4,716 books were removed from school libraries, made up of 155 different titles.
Books include biographies of Jacques Cartier and French explorer Étienne Brûlé.
While going on their censorship spree, the board didn’t even bother to contact the authors impacted by the decision.
“It’s incredible. What right do they have to do such a thing? It’s completely ridiculous,” said Sylvie Brien who wrote the children’s book The Indian College Affair.
