Parks Canada gives free entry to immigrants, Canadians still pay full price

In another move showing that the Trudeau government doesn’t care about Canadians, immigrants will now get free admission to all places administered by Parks Canada, but Canadians will not.

Parks Canada gives free entry to immigrants, Canadians still pay full price

According to a post from the Government of Canada, all ‘newcomers’ and new citizens who use the government’s Canoo app will “enjoy free admission to all places administered by Parks Canada across the country for one full year.”

This includes all national parks, historic sites, and marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada, which constitutes 38 national parks, 10 national park reserves, and 1 urban national park; the 171 national historic sites administered by Parks Canada; and 5 national marine conservation areas.

But only if you’re a recent immigrant.

Canadians, on the other hand, will have to pay a fee of over $30 per adult or over $80 per family group for most single-location passes.

Some expenses immigrants will still have to pay (like Canadians) include camping, backcountry, and other accommodations; Canadian Rockies Hot Springs; Northern Park Backcountry Camping and Excursion Permits; lockage; mooring; reservation fees; and guided tours and hikes and programs not usually included with admission.

While it’s unlikely most or even many will take advantage of these free passes, this still constitutes a significant degree of potentially lost revenue given the fact that Canada is taking in over 1 million migrants per year, by far the highest amount proportional to the native population in the G7.

But even worse, it reeks of Trudeau’s casual favouritism for ‘newcomers’ over those who have been here for years, if not their entire lives.
