Planet Fitness has seen its stock value drop 5% this week after the company defended its gender inclusive changeroom policy and told disgruntled women that they need to accept their “discomfort.”

The development comes a few days after a woman named Patricia Silvia released a video on social media where she explained that she witnessed a “man with a penis” who was shaving in the lady’s washroom.

Planet Fitness defends policy

Planet Fitness has released a statement claiming they are a “judgment-free zone” and that its gender identity non-discrimination policy states “members and guests may use the gym facilities that best align with their sincere, self-reported gender identity.”

The company also claimed that gym members’ “discomfort” is not a reason to deny transgender individuals access to the washrooms, and that those who violate their policy will also have their membership terminated.

Woman tells trans-identified man to leave changeroom

In her video, Silvia said she asked the trans-identified man why he was in the women’s washroom, and said he replied “I’m queer and LGB.”

Silvia said she photographed the trans-identified man who was shaving in the women’s locker room. Planet Fitness subsequently revoked her membership for violating their mobile device policy.

“I took that picture because I felt like I was in an unsafe space,” Silvia explained in the video.

She further claimed a 12-year-old girl was present in the washroom during the incident, wrapped in just a towel.

Since Silvia released her video, some social media users have called for boycotting the fitness company, and the company’s stock value has dropped over 5%.
