In light of Pope Francis’ controversial new document that will broaden the scope of the “Pastoral Meaning of Blessings,” certain Catholic groups are worried it may eventually lead to the blessing of same-sex relationships.

Pope’s approval of blessing same-sex couples would cause harm, group warns

Officially released on December 18th, the document entitled “Fiducia Supplicans” was released, sparking much criticism from the Christian world, in particular for the passage that allows “blessings for couples in irregular situations and for couples of the same sex.”

Vatican document “will certainly lead to the rejection of biblical truth,” says Campaign Life Coalition director.

Immediately following the Pope’s announcement, the Campaign Life Coalition (CLC), a Canadian pro-life and pro-family organization, released a scathing statement.

“This gravely problematic Vatican document will certainly lead to the rejection of biblical truth by many Christians and a loss of supernatural faith,” said Director of Political Operations, Jack Fonseca in a press release.

He further pleaded with Canada’s Catholic bishops to join bishops from around the world who forbid blessings for same-sex couples. Fonesca also added that the document will cause “much spiritual harm.”

“Dissident priests are using this opportunity to advance the LGBTQ agenda”

Additionally, CLC’s director Josie Luetke said some “dissident priests” would use the document to further the LGBT agenda.

Fonseca said the move would “embolden persecution and prosecution of Catholics and Christians, including school trustees, who defend biblical sexuality, whether via hate speech laws or internal Codes of Conduct.”

“While the Declaration repeatedly insists that the intention is not to legitimize or validate same-sex relationships, nor produce confusion and scandal, the effect has been, and likely will continue to be, the opposite,” read CLC’s statement.

The international Clergy strikes back

In spite of the few leftists and woke clergy who capitulated or celebrated the new guidelines, many within the clergy resisted, including Malawi’s bishops, saying that blessing for “same sex unions of any kind are not permitted.”

The canceled Bishop from Texas, Joseph Strickland, also called out the document, calling on Catholic bishops to resist, saying, “We really simply need to be a united voice saying, ‘no,’ we will not respond to this.”

Contradictory messages in document

While the document does call to allow “blessings for couples in irregular situations and for couples of the same sex,” it also makes the assertion that “…what constitutes marriage—which is the ‘exclusive, stable, and indissoluble union between a man and a woman…”

It also maintains that “it is only in this context that sexual relations find their natural, proper, and fully human meaning,” while also adding that “The Church’s doctrine on this point remains firm.”

Some have pointed out this obvious contradiction in the wording of the document with regards to the semantics of blessings versus sacraments, as well as the clear dangers of such a momentous decision.
