The Central Quebec School Board is asking students to start using a QR code to board buses.

The change, part of a pilot project that will likely be expanded to include other school boards if successfully implemented, is set to come into effect on March 15.

Additionally, the school board plans on introducing a smartphone app by March 21 that will work with the QR code to track the movement of both students and buses.

“In addition, starting March 21, 2022, you can download an application to receive notifications on your smartphone,” the school board’s announcement reads. “This application will let you know when the bus is approaching the stop, when the bus has left the stop, and when your child will arrive at school.”

According to Rebel News’s Maxim Boivin, “‘mTransport’ informed me of an error within this notice, stating the cards aren’t chipped, but simply ‘display a QR code.'”

It appears that the QR code is currently optional, but this will likely change going forward as more infrastructure is created that requires its use.

This is, perhaps, the most blatant implementation of a Digital ID in Canada, signifying the clear extension of vaccine passports and pandemic measures into non-COVID-related policy.

Yesterday, The Counter Signal released a lengthy feature on the impact of Digital IDs and the World Economic Forum’s agenda, which we highly recommend you read here.
