After failing to prevent an assassination attempt against Presidential candidate Donald Trump last Saturday, the US Secret Service director, Kimberly Cheatle, has resigned.
The ‘DEI director’ made her decision a day after democratic and republican lawmakers humiliated her over her Secret Service’s jaw-dropping incompetence demonstrated on July 13, when they didn’t guard the perfect roof upon which to take a clear shot at the former President, which sat within 500 feet of the podium where Trump stood.
“I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” read the email to her staff, as reported by The Associated Press. “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director.”
Hired as the director by Joe Biden in September 2022, Cheatle made diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) a top priority of the agency, with a stated goal of having females represent at least 30% of staff. This became a mocking point for critics, as video from July 13 revealed that two presumed female Secret Service agents were in a complete panic after shots were fired at Trump, with one not knowing how to holster her gun.
On Monday, Cheatle was grilled by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, where she refused to provide any answers to questions, such as how many shell casings were found on the roof, if there was one shooter or more than one, how long the secret service knew the shooter was on the roof before they shot him, and why the building wasn’t closely guarded by law enforcement.
Many pundits are suggesting Cheatle is being used as the scapegoat to cover up the details of July 13.
“The cover up is happening in plain sight. They sent Cheatle to the House hearing to stonewall and absorb the blame and then promptly pushed her out. They’re hoping that we stop asking question. They’re hoping we don’t notice that none of our questions have actually been answered,” said the Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh.
