NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has voted to keep Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in power, two weeks after he ripped up his Supply and Confidence agreement that meant he no longer needed to do so.

NDP MPs and Bloc Québécois MPs all voted against the Conservatives non-confidence motion, as expected.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s motion called “to give Canadians the carbon tax election they want.”

Earlier this month, the NDP ended their ‘Supply and Confidence’ agreement with the Liberals, which had shielded the government from confidence votes. If enough NDP and Bloc Québécois MPs voted “No,” Justin Trudeau would have been forced to either resign or dissolve parliament and call an election.

Following the vote, Poilievre stated on social media, “The NDP vote to keep Trudeau in power to tax your food, take your money, double your housing costs & unleash crime & chaos. The Costly Coalition is back & on the path to QUADRUPLING the carbon tax to $0.61/L.”
