Liberals plan hotel purchases to manage refugee surge

The Liberals’ latest strategy to stem the influx of asylum shoppers is buying up hotels for them to stay in for free.

Documents from Immigration revealed that, between February 2023 and January 2024, as many as 4,896 asylum seekers were sent to Niagara, costing taxpayers an average of $208 for each individual per day, “which includes rooms, meals, services, and security.”

As of February 22, the CBSA indicated there were 28,145 failed refugee claimants subject to a warrant, and an additional 18,684 failed refugee claimants subject to an enforceable removal order.
