The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) announced it’s launching a legal challenge against the Trudeau Liberals’ refusal to reveal which politician stayed in a luxury suite hotel that cost $6,000 per night.
The expense was revealed back in October by Brian Lilley of the Toronto Sun.
While attending the Queen’s funeral, one of the many Liberal delegates who travelled to London was billed by The River Suite at the Corinthia Hotel over $6,000 CAD.
The CTF filed an access-to-information request to find out who stayed in the suite on Canadian taxpayers’ backs, but the name was redacted upon receipt.
“As a matter of principle, the government owes taxpayers transparency,” said CTF’s Federal Director, Franco Terrazzano.
“Taxpayers paid the bills, and we deserve to know who wasted our money staying in the $6,000-per-night hotel room.”
The government justified the redaction by citing clauses meant to protect personal information and security.
A lawyer from the CTF filed a complaint with the Office of Information Commissioner regarding the redaction.
“Prime Minister Justin Trudeau needs to come clean and tell taxpayers who stayed in the River Suite,” Terrazzano said.
“You don’t get to be prime minister and hide how you spend our tax dollars.”
During the Queen’s funeral weekend, Trudeau was met with international scandal after breaking out into a poorly timed rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody in a hotel lobby.
A video emerged of Trudeau singing Freddie Mercury’s hit special while a member of the Canadian entourage, Gregory Charles, played the piano.
The Counter Signal’s Keean Bexte said Trudeau is “drunkenly signing for an audience at the funeral of his predecessor. Classy.”
