The lawyer of the man who was charged for throwing rocks at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as he entered his tour bus said his client intends to subpoena Trudeau about supposed inconsistencies in his statements.
As reported by the Windsor Star, lawyer Phillip Millar is ready to subpoena the Prime Minister on the basis of contradictory statements that allegedly provoked the protesters:
“I have every intention of subpoenaing Justin Trudeau, challenging him on the inconsistencies of his statements and alleging that he was provoking the protesters,” the attorney said.
The accused is Shane Marshall, a 26-year-old from St. Thomas, Ontario, who is charged with assault with a weapon after the incident was caught on video. Other Canadian media personalities were accused of being related to the attack, some even falsely accused of being the perpetrators.
Marshall’s lawyer also stated that he believes they have a “very strong case to justify” their subpoena and believes that it will be enforced against the Prime Minister. For obvious reasons, he stated that he would love to cross-examine the Liberal leader.
Additionally, Marshall was the riding association president for the People’s Party of Canada, overseeing Elgin-Middlesex-Long at the time. He is also in the midst of a five-year weapons ban from charges unrelated to the alleged assault on the Prime Minister.
Justin Trudeau is currently on a public relations tour of Quebec, Canada, visiting a strawberry and rhubarb farm in Quebec’s only region where the French language is growing.
Trudeau’s photo-op comes during increased scrutiny surrounding a 2020 mass shooting in Nova Scotia that has federal authorities countering the Liberal Party’s claim that they did not interfere in the criminal investigation.
