According to unnamed figures close to the President-elect, Trump may be trying to resurrect the Keystone XL pipeline project as soon as his first day in office.

Keystone XL pipeline breathing new life with Trump

The Keystone XL was officially canceled after Biden revoked a key permit allowing for the U.S stretch of the project which starts from Alberta, and crosses into Nebraska, ending in Texas.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has recently promoted the idea of increasing pipeline capacity without naming the Keystone XL project.

Pierre Poilievre, who is poised to become Canada’s next Prime Minister within a year, has said that he would repeal anti-pipeline bill C-69, which has killed numerous natural gas and oil projects in the Western provinces.

With changing policy positions inspired by new Conservative leadership, investors and media speculators are becoming more optimistic that Keystone XL or a similar project will be successful in the coming years. Canadian businessman and television personality Kevin O’Leary said in an interview with Fox Business that he believes the pipeline will not be called KeyStone XL, but may be under a new name.

He also highlighted the role of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith as a rockstar, who’s been taking matters into her own hands since Trump was elected, regularly meeting with American governors to discuss opportunities around energy policy.
