Days following corporate media leading the charge, a bunch of Trudeau-funded far-left groups are calling for Dr. Jordan Peterson’s speaking event in Ottawa to be cancelled.
On Wednesday, more than 30 organizations and small non-profits issued a letter to Ottawa City Council and the Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
Later this month, Peterson is scheduled to speak at the Ottawa Senators home arena. The January 30 event, put on by CAA, is part of Peterson’s Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life tour.
“We are a coalition of organizations, small businesses and labour unions that represent thousands of residents across the City of Ottawa and surrounding areas,” the letter reads.
“…Many of whom are from equity-deserving communities and almost all of whom experienced the traumatic events of the occupation of our city by the far-right.”
The letter says that Peterson’s “toxic, violent rhetoric” is transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic, and racist. The groups add that Peterson’s words have contributed to an “increased environment of hate, especially towards the trans-community.”
“In short, there is a difference between free speech and hate speech. The views of Dr. Peterson clearly veer more towards the latter.”
“If the CAA, the Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa Senators Group and our City Council truly value the lives and well-being of equity-seeking groups throughout the City of Ottawa they will act quickly and work together to ensure this show does not take place in our city.”
Over 30 groups signed the letter, at least 10 of which receive funding from the Trudeau Liberals.
Last year, one of the Trudeau-funded groups (Wisdom to Action) received just under $100,000 from the Department of Justice Canada. In 2021, the same group received $994,661 from the Department for Women and Gender Equality.
Another group, The Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, received over $1 million from Health Canada last year.
Employment and Social Development Canada has provided funds to at least three of the groups, including Kind Space, Centretown Community Health Centre, and Planned Parenthood.
The Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women received $1 million in 2021 from the Department for Women and Gender Equality. In addition, the same group has received thousands of dollars from the Department of Justice Canada.
The Status of Women Canada provides funding to the City for All Women Initiative.
The far-left Canadian Anti-Hate Network received over $250,000 in 2019 from Canadian Heritage.
The majority of the other “groups” represent tiny non-profits that haven’t managed to convince the Trudeau Liberals for funding yet.
One psychologist represents one group called Tall Tree Psychology in the Ottawa area.
Another group is an LGBT-friendly pick-up hockey group.
Another is a Defund The Police motivated group, started by university students and professors.
Yet another group supports “Decolonization.”
This coordinated effort first gained momentum thanks to corporate media.
Last week, Yahoo Sports writer Ian Kennedy suggested that Peterson’s “anti-trans” rhetoric is incompatible with the NHL’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion agenda.
About an hour later, Kennedy’s article was quote-tweeted by Global News reporter Rachel Gilmore.
“Glad to see this getting some coverage,” she said.
“After @LiveNationON announced Peterson’s upcoming speaking gig at the @CdnTireCtr, the venue had to shut down replies on Twitter because Ottawa residents were so upset about it.”
