A recent poll indicates that 4 in 10 Canadians believe the CBC is state propaganda from the Trudeau Liberals.
Bruce Anderson from Spark Advocacy revealed the findings earlier this week.
Between April 18 – 20, 1,200 Canadians were polled about their thoughts on the CBC. The poll was nationwide, with Abacus Data doing the field work.
A whopping 40% of respondents agreed that “Journalism provided by the CBC is propaganda on behalf of the federal government.”
In other words, almost half of Canadians believe the CBC is a Liberal propaganda machine that echoes Trudeau talking points.
“Two thirds of Conservative voters (64%) think the CBC journalism is propaganda on behalf of the federal government, as do 60% of People’s Party voters,” Anderson said.
Additionally, 23% of Liberal voters and 29% of NDP voters polled believe the CBC is Trudeau propaganda.
Furthermore, 45% are attracted to the idea of shutting down the CBC completely in order to save tax dollars.
Albertans represented the group most distrustful of the CBC, with 57% of those polled saying they want to shut down the state-broadcaster altogether.
Earlier this month, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre asked Twitter to label the CBC with a state-affiliated media tag on its profile.
“The CBC’s 2021-2022 Annual Report disclosed that it received almost $1.24 billion, the vast majority of its funding, from the Canadian government,” Poilievre said.
“I believe that Twitter should apply the Government-funded Media label to the CBC’s various news-related accounts, including @CBC, @CBCNews and @CBCAlerts,” he added.
Subsequently, the CBC applied the tag to one of the CBC’s accounts (@CBC), while leaving the others alone.
However, since then, Twitter has removed the tag from not just the one CBC account that received the tag, but all state-funded broadcasters’ accounts, including those from Russia and China.
