A February 28 Leger survey revealed that two-thirds of Canadians are unhappy with the Trudeau Government — and only 17% believe Justin Trudeau would make the best Prime Minister of all the party candidates.
Leger surveyed 1,554 Canadians on February 24-25, and the results are consistent with what the past eight months have shown.
Asked “In your opinion, which federal party leader would make the best Prime Minister of Canada?,” Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre secured 27% of the votes compared to Justin Trudeau’s 17%, and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh’s 16%.
The survey also found that Poilievre’s Conservative Party remains in a comfortable lead, 16 points ahead of Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party.
“If a federal election were to be held today, 41% of Canadians would vote for the Conservative Party of Canada, while 25% would vote for Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party,” the polling firm stated.
44% of respondents said they were “very dissatisfied” with the Trudeau Government, and 22% said “somewhat dissatisfied.” The “very dissatisfied” total represents a 4 point increase since Leger’s January survey that asked the same question.
Asked about the economy, 48% of respondents indicated they were living paycheque to paycheque.
Abacus data shows similar results
Abacus Data’s January 4 – 9 poll of 1,500 adults nationwide showed that Prime Minister Trudeau’s net favourability is at an all time low.
A whopping 59% of the poll’s respondents said they have a negative impression of Trudeau, with only 25% indicating they have a positive impression of him.
Trudeau says next election won’t happen for a while
In December, Prime Minister Trudeau hired a branding specialist (who uses pronouns in his bio) to try and convince Canadians to like him more. Since then, the Liberals have sent out attack ads on Poilievre that suggest he’s the Canadian version of Donald Trump.
