According to Abacus Data, Alberta is seen to be doing a better job on all fronts compared to the feds, other than on climate change, and has the highest support for doing a better job compared to all other provincial governments.
Of note, “Albertans are the only subpopulation to believe their provincial government is doing a better job than the federal government at growing the economy (49% to 27%),” said Abacus Data’s CEO, David Coletto.
Between July 4 and 9, the survey asked 1,989 adults nationwide for their perspective on how provincial governments are handling important issues like safety and the economy, compared to their perception of the Trudeau Liberals’ performance.
As for ensuring public safety, every surveyed region indicated more Canadians believe their respective provincial government is doing better than the federal Liberals, which has been heavily criticized for its soft-on-crime policies. Albertans show the most support for their provincial government in this category compared to other provinces, with 51% of respondents siding with Premier Danielle Smith’s UCP, and just 26% siding with the feds (23% don’t know).
Albertans also gave their provincial government the highest marks compared to the feds in terms of ‘Helping to build as many homes as possible’(48% to 28%), ‘Helping you manage the cost of living,’ (49% to 30%), ‘Keeping your taxes as low as possible’ (53% to 28%), and ‘Growing the economy’ (49% to 24%).
The only category the feds outscored the Albertan government on was ‘Addressing climate change,’ by a small margin, 33% to 27%.
