Justin Trudeau’s government appears to be moving forward with a plan to biometrically identify the vaccination status of Canadians and foreigners who are trying to enter Canada.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says that the need is “urgent,” to “secure the services of a global organization with knowledge of and expertise in biometrics.”

The document goes on to say that “the Agency requires this organization to assist with the immediate establishment of an Office of Biometrics and Identity Management and to work with the Agency in researching, planning for and rapidly developing a strategy and roadmap related to the use of Digital solutions enabled by supporting technologies in biometrics, in response to the COVID 19 situation and other operational priorities”

According to the document which has been embedded below, the federal government has decided to create a “Biometrics Authority (Center for Excellence),” which will assist the CBSA with their management of pandemic related issues at the border and in partnership with other federal government departments and international partners.

June 21 is the final day for a “global organization” to submit a proposal.
