The Brampton man charged with sexually assaulting a 3-year-old was out on bail for an October 2022 incident in which he was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon, The Counter Signal has learned.
Police announced charges against Brandon Ramnath on Thursday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a three-year-old boy who was in a stroller in Brampton Civic Hospital on August 18.
The man then allegedly committed an “indecent act” in another area of the hospital.
Court records reveal Ramnath was charged in October 2022 for assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon.
His next court date appearance for the October 2022 incident is set for Aug. 27., 2024—the same date for court hearing set for his more recent charges.
In other words, Ramnath is still undergoing court proceedings for charges related to assault with a dangerous weapon when he was charged with sexually assaulting a baby.
This time, Peel Police stated that Ramnath is being held until his next bail hearing, and said that investigators are asking “any additional victims” of Ramnath to call the Special Victims Unit at 905-453-2121, extension 3460.
In May, the Peel Police Service Board pleaded for the Liberal Party of Canada to address substantive bail reform after a man out on bail killed three innocent citizens during a high speed car chase with the police.
“We respect the constitutional rights concerning bail, but our current system requires immediate recalibration to prioritize community safety and prevent further victimization,” stated Nando Iannicca, Chair of the Peel Police Service Board.
