The Liberals have cancelled a Calgary meet-and-greet at Mikey’s on 12th due to outrage over Chrystia Freeland’s appearance in the city.
Speaking with workers at the popular local pub, they confirmed to me that Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland and Liberal MP George Chahal’s “Pints & Politics” event, ironically hosted by the ‘True Grit Club,’ had been cancelled by organizers.
“Summer 2022 has been very exciting in Calgary, from hosting the Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau over Stampede to spending time relaxing with friends and family,” Chahal writes in an ad for the event. “I am excited to share that my good friend, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, will be in Calgary next Tuesday!”
“Before MP Freeland and I return to Ottawa, we invite you to Mikey’s on 12th for a beer, on me!”
The cancellation of the event comes after Freeland was publicly (and quite aggressively) called a “traitorous, f*cking b*tch” by an angry Calgarian as she was exiting a lobby into an elevator with her entourage, smirking throughout the interaction.
Nearly all public figures in Canada have condemned the verbal accosting despite Freeland’s support for devastating mandates and other past conduct, which included apparently taking pleasure in freezing the bank accounts of protesters.
This cancellation is likely due to “safety concerns” that similar scenes of public outrage and condemnation might unfold should Freeland appear at the Calgary pub night.
