A man has been taken into custody in Calgary after stabbing multiple people, putting at least one victim in critical condition.
CTV reports the stabbing took place at Eighth Avenue S.E. and Fourth Street.
“Officers quickly flooded the downtown area to track, locate and arrest a suspect believed to be connected to at least three stabbings and a robbery,” a police statement reads.
“Within approximately 15 minutes, beginning around 12:45 p.m … police received multiple reports of a man with a knife who is believed to have stabbed three people and assaulted another while trying to steal a purse.”
The Calgary police statement further indicated that all victims are in stable condition, however some injuries are serious.
This stabbing spree is only the most recent that Calgary has seen of late.
Last week, Mayor Gondek issued a plea for more resources after different stabbing, despite voting to defund the police budget in 2020 by $20 million.
“I have made it clear to Administration that I expect immediate action and additional resources to be deployed,” she said.
“We cannot wait for the next tragedy to occur before something more is done.”
