Plante quickly received emergency treatment while sitting on the ground in front of reporters.

Plante was speaking at a podium when the incident took place. She suddenly stopped talking in the middle of her sentence, appeared dizzy, then collapsed down to the ground where she remained.

According to the Montreal Gazette, Plante was not taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Plante is a member of the Projet Montréal party.

December 6 update: Plante’s spokesperson told Newsweek, “After an assessment by a medical team, the mayor is doing well. She thanks the staff involved and all the words of support received today. As a precautionary measure following her illness, she will be reducing the pace of her activities over the next few days and will be absent from the Ville-Marie Borough Council meeting this evening. She will gradually resume her activities and thanks everyone for their understanding and support.”

Plante’s spokesperson also said her incident was “absolutely” not caused by the COVID-19 vaccine.
