Calgary Police have announced they have laid charges against three individuals for assaulting a peace officer after a pro-Palestinian demonstration took place Sunday night.
Video from Mocha Bezirgan emerged on Sunday of a tense scene between the pro-Palestinian protesters and Calgary Police.
Police stated on Monday, “As the main protest was coming to a peaceful conclusion, approximately 100 demonstrators separated from them and attempted to block a major road, creating a dangerous situation between motorists & demonstrators.”
“Several individuals within this group were not compliant with police & despite attempted negotiations, continued to impede traffic & escalate their behaviour, with some attempting to push through a line of police officers.”
Police charged Wassime Taha, 30, Wafik Kassem, 25, and Mohamed Hamdanie, 25, each with a count of assaulting a peace officer.
The Calgary Police further said that, “In relation to interference as police attempted to make an arrest, Mervat HAMDANIE, 27, has been charged with one count of obstruction of a peace officer. During her arrest, her hijab became displaced & officers immediately allowed this to be rectified.”
