A decorated military general kicked off the Conservative party convention in Quebec city on Thursday night, and he didn’t waste time mocking Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Retired Lt.-Gen. Michel Maisonneuve, and his wife, retired Maj. Barbara Maisonneuve, were asked by the Conservative Party to deliver their remarks as a “tag team.”
General Maisonneuve calls for common sense
Michel Maisonneuve started out by saying Canada needs to return to common sense.
“Our Canadian values are being destroyed due to a lack of leadership and a woke movement that panders to narrow special interests,” he said.
He said that since Trudeau was elected, Canada has faltered.
“Our country has been led by our government that has been focused on virtue signaling, apologizing for who we are, erasing our history, and hurting and dividing our citizens.”
Canadian armed forces have been depleted under Trudeau
One of the biggest rounds of applause Lt.-Gen. Michel Maisonneuve received was when he lamented how depleted the armed forces have become in terms of equipment, training, and personnel under Trudeau.
“They are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for us and the least we can do is provide the tools they need to fight and protect our freedom!”
Maisonneuve’s wife slams Trudeau
The general went back and forth with his wife, Maj. Barbara Maisonneuve, who immediately slammed Trudeau when she first spoke.
“And this Prime Minister leads by example with his sense of entitlement, his complete lack of personal responsibility, and his innate ability to see his endless flaws in everyone but none in himself.”
“It’s time to rid Canada of that mentality.”
The biggest round of applause she received was when she noted that Prime Minister Trudeau didn’t once speak to the protesters in Ottawa for the three weeks they were there.
“He should pay attention and not run away at the sight of a bouncy castle,” she said.
She also noted that “if you are not woke, you are labeled a far-right extremist, a fringe radical, and somehow not Canadian. Where is the common sense in that?” she asked.
