Chinese-Canadian group says CCP has them under constant surveillance

A Chinese Canadian religious group has asked the Trudeau government for help, alleging the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regularly threatens and intimidates them on Canadian soil.

Chinese-Canadian group says CCP has them under constant surveillance

The Falun Dafa Association of Canada, a Chinese religious group in Canada also known as Falon Gong, made their plea on Wednesday morning from Ottawa.

The group said the CCP “knows everything you do in Canada.”

“They control the Chinese community very tightly”

Three members from the group took to the podium to share personal experiences and stories of CCP harassment in Canada.

“In Toronto, we will see people who appear at different locations and different times to monitor practitioners. There’s one person who has come to a specific mall location for ten years,” she said.

Falun Gong practitioners regularly volunteer in public places to tell the public about the evils of the Chinese Communist Party, and they do so in front of the Chinese Consulate in Toronto, as well as public transit areas and city halls.

“It’s a systematic attack by the communist regime”

One speaker said unknown Chinese individuals often take pictures of group members, and later, somehow figure out the group member’s identity. The unknown agent subsequently threatens the practitioner, as well as their family members who often reside in China, demanding the Falon Dafa member stop with their anti-CCP activities.

One group member asked the Trudeau government for “effective measures” in combating the CCP interference in their daily lives and provided eleven recommendations.

The member said that they regularly tell the police about each instance of intimidation, but said police treat each instance as a one-off, thus failing to root out the issue at large.

CCP persecution

The CCP has been criticized for its persecution of religious groups, including Falun Gong, Christians, Uighur Muslims, and Tibetan Buddhists.

The BBC reported year that the CCP has detained over one million Uyghurs in recent years.

Uyghur Muslims are often pressured to return to China, where many end up in re-education camps, are forced into labour, and even tortured.
