Conservative Party leads Trudeau after firing O’Toole

Following the abrupt firing of former leader Erin O’Toole, the Conservative Party of Canada is now leading the Liberals in several polls.

Based on the most recent Abacus poll, the Conservatives currently lead the Liberals by two points, sitting at 33 per cent and 31 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the NDP sits at 17 per cent, while the BQ and PPC sit at 7 per cent and 6 per cent respectively. As per usual, the Green Party is in dead last, not counting smaller, less notable parties.

According to data available on Polling Canada’s new website (which aggregates the results of multiple polls), support for both parties is fluctuating week-to-week, with the two parties apparently neck in neck.

However, an Angus Reid poll from January 12 — just weeks before O’Toole was removed as party leader for his failure to stand by Canadian truckers — has the Conservatives losing by a whopping 5 points, with Liberals sitting at 34 per cent.

As TCS’s Keean Bexte noted just as the Freedom Convoy reached Ottawa and before O’Toole was ousted and leadership frontrunner Pierre Poilievre stepped up, “Here’s what is not being noticed about this clip: the MP right ahead of Pierre Poilievre is O’Toole’s lieutenant. Front bencher. Tucks his head and ignores the very simple question. Pierre, who represents the Official Opposition, takes the question, and hits a home run.”

Indeed, as the Freedom Convoy was making its way across Canada, O’Toole cowardly refused to comment on whether he supports truckers fighting for their rights. The answer to the question was obvious, but O’Toole was likely too concerned with his approval rating.

Given recent polls, it’s unlikely Conservatives or Canadians in general miss the Liberal-leaning, feckless leader, apparently being much happier with the likes of interim-leader Candice Bergen, Pierre Poilievre, and Leslyn Lewis.
