A new Nanos poll suggests the Poilievre Conservatives remain in majority government territory despite another recent poll celebrated by the Toronto Star that showed the Liberals had made marginal gains.
The December 15 Nanos poll of 1,000 Canadians nationwide put the Conservatives ahead with a 16% lead: 41% of respondents said they would vote for the Conservatives in the next election, compared to 25% choosing the Trudeau Liberals.
This comes after legacy media outlets collectively reported about support Trudeau gained from an Abacus Data poll exclusively provided to the Toronto Star.
According to the Abacus poll of 1,919 Canadians, support for the Conservatives was at 37% and support for the Liberals at 27%.
Less than 10% of respondents choose Trudeau over other options
Making matters complicated for the Liberals is the fact that, despite widespread disapproval of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, there seems to be no likable Liberal candidate waiting in the wings.
In a separate Nanos survey, among a list of preferred Liberal candidates that included Trudeau, deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland, and housing minister Sean Fraser, “none of the above” won more votes than anyone.
The November 30–December 2 survey also showed “Unsure” received the second most votes, while Trudeau received less than 10% of them.

According to an October Angus Reid poll, the majority of Canadians want the scandal-plagued PM to step down.
Conservatives lead while the media is asking if Trudeau will step down
The numbers have gotten so bad for the Trudeau Liberals that some reporters — among those given access to him — have asked him directly if he plans to step down.
However, to date, the PM has said he intends to run in the next federal election.
On Monday, Canada’s deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland said she fully plans on running in the next federal election and issued full support for Prime Minister Trudeau, saying he’s doing a “great job.”
