CTV News’ senior host Evan Solomon is joining Gerald Butts at the Eurasia Group — and Canadians are saying the appointment explains Solomon’s bias in favour of the Liberals.
Solomon hosts CTV’s flagship shows Question Period, Power Play and the Evan Solomon Show.
The Eurasia Group said Monday that Solomon is joining as a member of the Management Committee and as Publisher of GZERO Media. His entrance is a “critical step in achieving our strategic goals to expand our diverse media platforms and reach a broader audience around the world,” it said in a statement.
Eurasia Group CEO Maziar Minovi thanked vice chairman Butts “who kept us rowing in the right direction as interim chair of GZERO Media.”
Butts, of course, is the former disgraced principal secretary for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Butts left the Prime Minister’s Office in 2019 while it was under scrutiny for pressuring the Liberal’s then-Justice Minister and Attorney General Jody Wilson Raybould to secure a plea deal for SNC Lavalin, a Quebec engineering giant charged with fraud.
In a post to Twitter, Butts said he is “beyond excited to share this big news,” adding that Solomon “is one of the smartest and best people anywhere. Thrilled to welcome him into the leadership of @gzeromedia and onto the senior team @EurasiaGroup,” he wrote.
Twitter users roasted the announcement in the comments.
“Now THAT is the hairline of a trusted journalist,” one user wrote.
“As the sycophants benefit from their nepotism…..,” another responded.
“Evan Solomon is a shill for the Liberal party. Confirmed.”
For his part, Solomon said he was “thrilled” with the announcement and added that he’ll stay on as a “special correspondent at CTV.”
Solomon has been a journalist in Canada for 25 years. His appointment begins October 17th based in Eurasia Group’s New York City office.
