‘Demographic imbalances’ key factor in Just Transition Bill

Documents reveal a guiding factor in the Liberal’s Just Transition Bill that will decimate the oil and gas industry is ensuring a sufficient number of transgender people get jobs out of the employment shifts.

‘Demographic imbalances’ key factor in Just Transition Bill

The documents obtained by The Counter Signal come from the Minister of Natural Resources office.

One of the stated perks of the energy transition to a low-carbon economy is that it will promote woke ideology by correcting “demographic imbalances.”

Specifically, the legislation will “increase inclusion in the clean energy workforce by creating more opportunities for women, LGBTQ2 and other under-represented people in the energy sector.”

The Natural Resources office sent the memo to Minister Jonathan Wilkinson.

“Women, youth and immigrants are currently underrepresented in energy jobs. Indigenous People are well-represented in these jobs but their participation at the senior management level and benefits for communities could be improved,” the memo reads.

“Just transition includes supporting diversity and inclusion in growing industries.”

While the Just Transition Bill hasn’t been tabled yet, Wilkinson said it’s coming later this year.

Earlier this month, Blacklock’s Reporter uncovered a briefing memo from June 2022 that touched on its details.

The memo indicated that at least 2.7 million Canadian workers would experience disruptions in their industries. It also said that those impacted and without “green skills” could always get jobs as janitors and truck drivers.

Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith voiced concerns over the memo during an interview with the Sun. Smith said the bill would decimate Alberta’s economy.

“I’m terrified for Albertans,” she said.

“I knew what was intended when they used the language ‘Just Transition.’ I don’t think Albertans believed what they had in mind for us,” she added.

“It’s very clear what they have in mind for us is devastating. They want to shut down a quarter of our economy.”

Smith promised to fight the bill. She said Albertans should only feel despair if the New Democrat Party (NDP) forms government.

Meanwhile, Alberta’s NDP leader Rachel Notley asked the Liberals to hold off from releasing the bill until after her bid for Premiership.

On Thursday, Notley said if she wins the election, she’ll pass legislation focused on anti-racism and establish “an anti-racism office to help identify and address racial inequalities in the province.”

The provincial election takes place May 29.
