Elon Musk confirms Twitter made a mistake over plan to censor documentary

Elon Musk has informed social media users that Twitter regulators made a mistake by threatening to censor the Daily Wire’s “What is a Woman?” documentary.

Elon Musk confirms Twitter made a mistake over plan to censor documentary

Earlier in the day, the Daily Wire’s Jeremy Boreing said that he was informed after conversations with Twitter staff that the documentary, which the Daily Wire plans to stream for free Thursday night, would be censored.

Specifically, Boreing was informed that in order for the platform to allow the documentary to stream, the Daily Wire would have to censor two scenes where trans individuals get “misgendered.”

“This was a mistake by many people at Twitter. It is definitely allowed,” Musk said on Thursday.

“Whether or not you agree with using someone’s preferred pronouns, not doing so is at most rude and certainly breaks no laws.”

Musk added, “I should note that I do personally use someone’s preferred pronouns, just as I use someone’s preferred name, simply from the standpoint of good manners.”

“However, for the same reason, I object to rude behavior, ostracism or threats of violence if the wrong pronoun or name is used.”

Musk’s response is a relief to users who were worried he’d already backtracked on his promise to have Twitter a free speech platform.

Independent thinkers are hopeful Musk will end Twitter censorship, and this hiccup shows he intends to do just that. The platform has long been accused of arbitrary bans, like those of Dr. Peter McCullough who frequently shares studies critical of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Musk bolstered those hopes with a tweet last year to advertisers explaining he bought Twitter to support a “common digital town square.”
