It’s been months since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, yet federal public servants still have not returned to work.

According to a report from the Canadian Press, the Treasury Board has decided to stick with hybrid work, meaning public servants will be back to in-person work two to three days a week starting early next year. That means when civil servants being paid from the taxpayer coffers finally do hit the office, they’re only required to do so once or twice a week.
For the other three to four days, they’re free to stay in their pajamas all day.
Meanwhile, the city of Ottawa is celebrating the impending economic boost.
In a news release on Thursday, Ottawa mayor Mark Sutcliffe said getting clarity from the federal government on the future of its workforce is “critical” for the local economy.
Executive director of the Sparks Street Business Improvement Area, Kevin McHale, says business owners are “cautiously optimistic” but noted many want to know if the federal government will downsize its office spaces.
