Rachel Notley’s NDP claims to be a moderate and pragmatic alternative to the United Conservative Party in the upcoming election, but a number of its candidates are communist sympathizers.
At least five NDP candidates have openly bragged about their communist views, with one candidate even leading a Communist Party march.
The issue isn’t only with individual candidates – the Alberta NDP has also shown a disturbing trend towards anti-Alberta and anti-Canadian policies at large.
Notley’s NDP is not moderate. It is dangerous, deceptive, and seeks to destroy the values that make Alberta great. It’s a Trojan horse for communism and it’s being exposed as such for all Albertans to see. Here are five examples:
Rod Loyola
Photos show the NDP’s Edmonton–Ellerslie candidate, Rod Loyola, marching in front of a Communist Party of Canada Edmonton Club parade.
Loyola took a prominent position in the march, leading an entire crowd of communists.
Additionally, Loyola has a history of performing as a rapper with songs full of communist themes and praise for communist dictators like Che Guevara and Fidel Castro.
“Throwin’ it down like a real revolutionary, climbing mountains like Guevara, attacking like Fidel at the Moncada, yellin’ victory on horseback into Santa Clara,” sang Loyola.
Gurinder Brar
The NDP’s Calgary–North East candidate Gurinder Brar made social media posts in praise of prominent communists including Chinese dictator Mao Zedong and Karl Marx.
“Those who say armed war is not the solution, read carefully,” wrote Brar when sharing a post about Zedong.
Another post featured a meme of Marx about redistributing wealth.
“Santa Marx is gonna take all of your toys and redistribute them equally among the masses of kids,” posted Brar.
The posts were made between 2016 and 2017.
Diana Batten
As for Calgary–Acadia NDP candidate Diana Batten, she retweeted a communist Twitter account as recently as November 2022.
Although she has since deleted the post, photos show Batten retweeting “Vote Communist May 4th” about deceased hacker Aaron Schwartz.
“Aaron Swartz would have been 36 today,” the post read.
“Aaron committed suicide after being sentenced to 35 years in prison by authorities for transferring and sharing scientific articles from JSTOR.”
Rosman Valencia
NDP Calgary–East candidate Rosman Valencia has also quoted activists with communist ties, like Angela Davis.
One tweet suggested that Alberta was a “racist society.”
“In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist. We must be anti-racist,” Valencia quoted Davis on Twitter.
Besides having communist ties, Davis was also involved in a shooting by the Black Panthers in the 1970s. Davis has also accused Jews in the Soviet Union of being “Zionist fascists.”
Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse
Meanwhile, the NDP’s Edmonton–Rutherford candidate Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse has linked to pro-communist propaganda on Facebook.
A post by the Facebook group Red Nation stated that “Communism is the horizon. Queer indigenous feminism is the way.”
