Premier Doug Ford has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Ontario’s largest union president, Fred Hahn, urging CUPE members to vote him out.

Ford calls Fred Hahn “disgusting human being”

Ford’s comments come after Hahn apologized for reposting a Facebook post that compared Jewish people to terrorists, depicting a Jewish diver as a suicide bomber.

“I encourage CUPE Canada, someone has to discipline this guy and I encourage the workers the next time a vote comes, vote this guy out because in my opinion he’s just a terrible, terrible human being,” Ford said.

The Premier also called Hahn a “disgusting human being.”

Hahn has been outspoken on the Israel-Hamas war, and previously “liked” a post on X issued by CUPE 3906, which expressed support for Palestinians “rising” just two days after October 7, 2023, when Hamas terrorists attacked Israeli civilians.

The CUPE president apologized for his more recent post, stating that he did not intend to compare Jewish civilians to terrorists but aimed to criticize the State of Israel for what he described as genocide amid their war with Gaza.

On Tuesday, Ontario’s Labour Minister encountered Hahn on camera, telling him to “stop hating on Jews.”

CUPE represents approximately 750,000 workers across Canada, including about 290,000 in Ontario.
