Former Harper Foreign Minister and PPC leader Maxime Bernier says he’s concerned that the military lacks the equipment to defend our own country.
“Our military doesn’t have the personnel or the equipment to defend our territory, but at least it will be gender-neutral and diversified,” wrote Bernier in a Tweet responding to the military’s decision to waste money making “gender-neutral” gear.
And Bernier isn’t the only one concerned. As previously reported by The Counter Signal, Canada’s current Defence Minister, Anita Anand, announced to Canadians and the whole world that the Canadian government has depleted its stock of weapons in its rush to assist Ukraine.
“We have exhausted inventory from the Canadian Armed Forces,” Anand said nervously. “There are capacity issues,” she added.
So far, Canada has shipped out 4,500 M72 rocket launchers and 7,500 hand grenades, 100 Carl-Gustaf M2 anti-tank launchers with 2,000 rounds. In addition, they have sent two tactical aircraft, helmets, body armour, gas masks, cameras, drones, mountains of field rations, and rare night vision gear.
While the Ukrainian regime specifically requested anti-air weapons, Trudeau was unable to oblige his Ukrainian counterpart because Canada had none to give — Great! — not to mention it may draw Canada into a direct conflict with Russia.
Yesterday, just before being denounced by the European Parliament as a “dictator,” “disgrace,” and totalitarian civil rights abuser for his treatment of Canadians participating in the Freedom Convoy protests, Trudeau reiterated his plan to continue supporting Ukraine — despite the horrid state of our Canada’s military.
“Putin’s attack on Ukraine is an attack on the values that form the pillars of all democracies,” Trudeau said to a nearly empty room (most MEPs left in protest before he began speaking).
“We have a responsibility to make the case to people about why these values matter so much — not just to Ukrainians but to us all. We must recommit ourselves to the work of strengthening our democracies, and demonstrate the principled leadership people are looking for.”
It isn’t clear what more Trudeau believes Canada can do to strengthen the “pillars of all democracies.” Of course, Canada has its own problems, but Trudeau seems more concerned with gift-giving and PR tours.
