The Counter Signal’s editor-in-chief, Keean Bexte, interviewed former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss in Washington, D.C., questioning her about former Bank of England Governor and current Liberal leadership hopeful Mark Carney.
Truss criticized Carney’s tenure as Governor, stating that “too much money was printed, which did damage to England’s economy.”
She further condemned Carney’s endorsement of Net Zero policies, calling them a “disaster for Britain” and warning that they “would be a disaster for Canada.”
Prior to her remarks in Washington, Truss took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, urging Canadians to “resist” Carney’s leadership, suggesting he intends to impose damaging Net Zero policies on Canada, just as he did in the UK.
Carney’s Track Record Under Scrutiny
British media outlets have scrutinized Carney’s leadership of the Bank of England. In 2018, former British MP Jacob Rees-Mogg dismissed him as “a failed second-tier politician.”
Carney served as Governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020, stepping down after facing accusations of making pro-Remain remarks during the UK’s Brexit campaign.
During his tenure as Governor, Carney became a British citizen in 2018.
At international events, outside of Canada, he has at times described himself as a “European”. At a World Economic Forum event, he notably spoke as an Irish citizen rather than as a Canadian.
Premier Danielle Smith in Washington DC
Bexte also caught up with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith during Trump’s inauguration day to ask her about the progress she’s made for Canada and for Alberta during her stay in Washington DC.
