Sarah Fischer, a proud Freedom Convoy supporter, has been appointed communications director for Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative party.
“I’m thrilled to share that I will be starting a new position as the Director of Communications at @CPC_HQ. We will work to restore hope in a nation that will one day have a Prime Minister who will put people before politics and make Canada the freest country on earth! #Pierre4PM,” she tweeted on Monday.
Fischer has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. She was previously a communications and policy advisor for the Conservative party. On her LinkedIn account, Fisher describes herself as a freedom lover and individualist.
“Writer, thinker, realist with hope, lover of Canada.”
Mainstream media critics are trying to discredit Fischer’s appointment to the party’s communications gig because she supports the Convoy.
“New CPC communications director Sarah Fischer said it was ‘nice to hear’ truck horns in downtown Ottawa after court injunction against them came into force. From one of numerous live videos she recorded during the Freedom Convoy,” tweeted Glen McGregor from CTV News.
But Fischer remains proud to support the protests.
“Yup,” she said in response to another tweet from McGregor.
“I will NEVER apologize for defending Canadians’ right to protest, especially when their Prime Minister shamed, ridiculed, ostracized and tried to silence them for 2 years. We can do better and we willl,” she said.
Fischer’s appointment comes as the Public Order Emergency Commission is investigating whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was justified in invoking the Emergencies Act to forcefully remove convoy demonstrators.
Since winning the Conservative leadership nomination in September, Poilievre has stopped talking about coercive vaccine mandates and focused his criticism of the government almost exclusively on the economy.
