Halifax Regional Police have confirmed they are in “the early stages” of investigating an alleged assault on a lesbian couple by a group of men in downtown Halifax that left one woman with a broken nose.

Halifax Police investigating alleged beat down on lesbian couple by middle eastern men

The incident, which occurred at around 1:50 A.M. on June 23 on Argyle Street, has sparked criticism of the lack of attention it’s received in mainstream media.

Emma MacLean, one of the victims, claimed in a social media post that the men were of Middle Eastern descent, possibly from Syria.

“As some may know, myself and my partner Tori were attacked on Saturday night by the group of 7-10+ Middle Eastern men, believed to be from Syria, aged 18-25 on Argyle Street in downtown Halifax,” she wrote, sharing a picture of the group.

MacLean stated, “These are the men who attacked my partner and I. If anyone can help identify or help share this post, I would be more than grateful.”

MacLean further detailed the assault, stating that she and her girlfriend, Tori, were attacked after clapping back at the men for allegedly making homophobic remarks towards them.

“One particular individual, wearing a red shirt with a walking boot, initially made a sexually degrading comment to me,” MacLean added.

“I felt punches and kicks and then I felt it on my nose and there was blood. I just thought this needs to stop now,” MacLean told CTV News, which omitted the detail about the men’s apparent Middle Eastern origin.

“I went to emerge the night of and they basically said it was too swollen for surgery,” MacLean said.

Police were involved in the aftermath of the scene with the group of men where they reportedly took one man’s ID. However, the men claimed the women started the physical altercation.

Immigration policy aftermath

Canada’s mass immigration policy under the Trudeau Liberals has come under scrutiny as incidents like these surface. Beyond the housing crisis that’s tied to mass immigration far outpacing housing supply, antisemitic incidents are becoming a near-daily occurrence.

American commentator Anne Coulter, who has been called dreadful names for her takes on immigration, took to social media to mention the incident.

“Oh, how I have warned you, Western Woman. Mob of Syrian immigrants brutally beat lesbian couple celebrating a birthday in Halifax,” she said.
