On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a cabinet shuffle yet again, amid turmoil within the Liberal Party and speculation that he’s on the verge of resigning. Public-opinion polls reveal the Liberals would get crushed an election if it were to happen today, giving a majority Government to the Conservatives. Moreover, a recent Abacus Data survey showed that two-thirds of Canadians Trudeau to resign immediately.
Trudeau’s cabinet shuffle announcement was overshadowed by NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, who, just before the swearing-in ceremonies took place at Rideau Hall, stated that he would propose a non-confidence motion to bring down the Liberal government.
However, the House of Commons is currently on holiday break, resuming January 27, 2025. The Liberals have the ability to prevent non-confidence motions until late February.
Conveniently, Singh’s pension kicks in February 25.
