Jill Biden thought curlers wear skates

First Lady Jill Biden toured a curling rink in Ottawa with Prime Minister Trudeau’s wife Sophie where she asked Sophie why the curlers weren’t wearing skates.

Jill Biden thought curlers wear skates

Clearly, it was Biden’s first time viewing curling in person or on TV, as her question wasn’t a joke.

“So you don’t wear skates?” Biden can be heard asking.

The curling instructor then explained to Biden that curlers wear curling shoes, not skates.

The awkwardness continued shortly after, when Sophie took offense at an innocent joke from Biden and rudely corrected her.

Sophie and Jill were seated at a table inside the curling rink where they spoke with young curlers about the relationship between sports and mental health. Sophie asked the young athletes a long-winded question to introduce the topic, essentially providing all of the answers in her question.

When she finally finished her question, Biden asked the athletes, “Is that too long of a question?”

“It wasn’t a question!” Sophie snapped back.

After the first curler answered Sophie’s question  — in what was mostly a scripted answer — Sophie joked that the meeting was over.

“And it’s your wrap. Goodbye!” she said while pretending to leave.
