Concerned parents, citizens and those opposed to gender ideology being taught in schools lined the streets in front of city hall in Calgary, Alberta on Friday, June 16, 2023. This, just a week removed from some of the Counter Signal’s most widely-seen coverage at a clash between protesters over similar issues in the nation’s capital.
Hundreds of parents, many of whom were Muslim, were speaking up against the on-going and escalating gender ideology that is being pushed in the Calgary’s schools.
Signs from some of the protesters read “let kids be kids” and “school is not a place for political activism,” as chants of “leave our kids alone” garnered responses from dozens of passing cars who honked in support.
Some religious leaders at the event gave speeches of peace, while others discouraged any confrontation with counter-protesters who donned mini-rainbow flags and one larger transgender flag.
Less than a dozen counter-protesters attended the event, mostly older women accompanied by a few transgender activists.
Some activists claimed it would be disrespectful to Muslims to show opposition to the protest. One “queer” group claimed that after consulting with “queer muslims” they decided not to mobilize protesters as “any counter protest to the action at city hall will likely be used as ammunition for this hate group to paint queer folks as racist.”
Recently, a transgender activist was charged with two counts of hate-motivated assault on Christian protester Josh Alexander after protests in Alberta. Taylor McNallie, 32, is the second so-called “anti-racist” activist charged with a hate-crime in Calgary this month after Black Lives Matter Calgary President Adora Nwofor was charged.
Approximately 20 million viewers watched the Counter Signal’s coverage in Ottawa as protesters clashed from both sides of the aisle. Ottawa parents were concerned that the local school board was forcing non-gender-specific pronouns on the entire student populous.
