Liberal MP Alexandra Mendes has added her voice to the chorus calling for a change at the top of the Liberal Party.
Speaking candidly to Radio-Canada, the Quebec-based Mendes revealed a groundswell of sentiment among her constituents, who she says are “very adamant the prime minister needs to go.”
Mendes said she’s personally not opposed to Trudeau’s continued leadership, but conveyed a stark message from “dozens and dozens” of her electorate, adding, “He’s no longer the right leader.”
The call for Trudeau’s resignation comes on the heels of a tumultuous period for the Liberal Party, marked by internal strife and public dissatisfaction. Recent polls and political analyses have painted a grim picture for Trudeau.
A notable poll even labeled Trudeau as the “worst PM ever.”
Moreover, the exodus of senior staff, including Trudeau’s campaign director who predicted defeat, underscores a party in disarray.
Prime Minister Trudeau’s Liberals begin their fall caucus meeting in Nanaimo, BC, on Monday, though some MPs are reportedly opting out of showing up.
