After two more of Justin Trudeau’s cabinet ministers quit, Liberal MPs are now openly calling on the Prime Minister to resign.
On Monday, Liberal MP Francis Drouin, who represents Ontario’s Glengarry—Prescott—Russell riding, called for Trudeau to resign, following Chrystia Freeland’s and Sean Fraser’s resignation from cabinet.
“He needs to go,” Drouin said, adding “I think today’s resignation is a sign of that.”
Drouin adds his name to the list of Trudeau’s underlings that is openly calling on him to step down.
Liberal MP Chad Collins, representing Ontario’s Hamilton East—Stoney Creek riding, also publicly called on Trudeau to throw in the towel.
Collins said he was one of twenty-three Liberal MPs who signed a letter calling on Trudeau to step down. “I publicly reiterate my request that the Prime Minister step down,” he said.
In September, Liberal MP Alexandra Mendes added her voice to the chorus calling for a change at the top of the Liberal Party.
The call for Trudeau’s resignation comes on the heels of a tumultuous period for the Liberal Party, marked by internal strife and public dissatisfaction. Recent polls and political analyses have painted a grim picture for Trudeau.
A notable poll even labeled Trudeau as the “worst PM ever.” Moreover, the exodus of senior staff, including Trudeau’s campaign director who predicted defeat, underscores a party in disarray.
